We rere looking for a beach resort near Manila to take my nephew when he was here for a family holiday. A fellow homeschooler who is a unit owner offered us a voucher and so we decided to book for our beach trip at Canyon Cove Beach Resort.
Canyon Cove Rooms Our voucher was for 3 superior rooms. Since they are currently servicing their rooms and there’s no 3 superior rooms adjacent to each other, they offered us adjacent Family Suite and a Deluxe KIng instead.
The rooms have private balcony facing the pool and the ocean. Suite rooms have 1 bedroom, a living area with a couch and a daybed by the window, and a dinette (kitchen + dinning areas). The Suite room had twin beds and a family daybed. The deluxe is a smaller version of the suite, without the daybeds in the living area and the bedroom. The rooms also have a separate bath and tub.
Restaurant. Canyon Cove restaurant serves buffet breakfast (with a limited ala carte meals), lunch and dinner. They also offer buffet lunch as well. At dinner, they also have an outdoor barbeque. Though limited, they have vegetarian choices.
Tip: If you do not want the breafast buffet or the limited meals they are offering, you can buy bread and pastries at their bakeshop. This works well with our young kids as the buffet is too much for them. They get to enjoy their breakfast by the beach too! If you are into roast beef, get the lunch buffet for unlimited servings.
Pool and Beach. We spent most of our time here. The kids loved the pool and the beach. The resort had a good beach front where the kids made sand castles, and had fun gathering shells and pebbles. They also had fun dipping in the sea, jumping with waves and even tried to catch small fishes.
They also have a waterpark and water sport facilities. There is a separate fee for these and are not recommended for young kids. The pool is heated and it’s perfect for a late afternoon and a night swim.
Since the beach area is closed at 6pm, this area is the busy one. Adult and kiddie pools are connected to each other and there’s always a visible lifeguard on duty.
One concern was, even Canyon Cove is a non-smoking facility, some people are still smoking by the pool side and the kids playground, where the kids and most of the people are.
The staff are not consistent on what their stand is. On ground staff would allow you to smoke (pool cabanas have ash tray bins) but when asked at the reception, they will tell you it is not allowed.
Canyon Cove Resort staff were very helpful. They accommodated our request to move the date of our visit due to a typhoon. There was a typhoon (signal 3) in Batangas the day before our trip and their facilities – pool and beach were closed. I was able to talk to somenone who is from the in-house reservations who rescheduled our trip. I hope their Makati/Ortigas offices would have designated line to give timely feedback for such emergency cases. Check-in and check-out is fast too.
Tip: Prepare Php 2000/room cash for room deposit. The amount is refundable upon check-out. There’s one a BDO ATM by the lobby when you need to withdraw cash.
Canyon Cove Resort Accommodations ranges from Php 5,800 ++ (Superior Room) to Php 14,000 ++ (Executive Suite). Canyon Cove offers a day tour, for 6am-7pm, with a fee of Php 1000 per person.
Canyon Cove in Nasugbu, Batangas is just a 3-4 hour drive away from Manila. You get to enjoy the beach and the pool altogether.
Are we coming back? Yes, maybe – when we want a near beach trip again. Hopefully that time, Taal and Batangas will be a safe destination again (there’s no more hightened alert due to Taal’s volcanic eruption).
