Servathon is a flagship event of Hands on Manila (HOM). It is being done annually to raise funds for the different projects supported by the organization.
The Servathon 2016 on September 24 will serve as Hands on Manila’s 15th anniversary culminating celebration. The theme will work on the premise that as HOM aims to change someone’s life, then it has to make the day count by coming up with service projects that its partner communities can sustainably benefit from for their daily activities.
Unlike the previous years, HOM Servathon 2016 will be in one venue, PICC tent in Pasay City for the simultaneous service projects.
Service Projects for this year are the following:
1. Assembly of solar bottle bulbs to help provide daytime light to select
urban indigent communities in Manila.
2. Assembly of mosquito/ pest trap to help lessen incidents of dengue in select communities in Manila.
3. Citronella candle making to help prevent mosquito bites among residents, especially children, in select urban and indigent communities in Manila during night time.
4. Disaster and first aid kit assembly. Volunteers will assemble disaster and first aid kits after a talk and basic first aid workshop to be facilitated by a Red Cross certified trainer.
5. Tsinelas making for select
communities in Manila, especially for the indigent youth of the area.
6. Fidget lap blanket making for the elderly of Kanlungan ni Maria and Golden Acres. These blankets provides sensory stimulation for the restless or “fidgety” hands of someone with Alzheimer’s or related Dementias.
7. Newspaper eco-bag paper sticks with Families and Children for Empowerment & Development (FCED). Newspaper sticks are the prime in weaving a bag.
8. Coaster making thru weaving with Gifts & Graces
Companies can join the event thru:
– Adoption of service project
– Logistical support and materials for the project (individually packed volunteer kits for 30pax)
