Last year, we took a family vacation in Seoul, Korea. We were supposed to go mid March for hubby to run his 10th marathon but since Gab got sick, we have to reschedule our trip to a later date. He did not get to run the Seoul Marathon this year but that gives us another reason to come visit and explore other places in South Korea.
Aside from the Korean food, street food and the hundreds of years old royal palaces that can be seen in the city next to huge modern urban skyscrapers, here are some reasons why we love to travel to Seoul, Korea:
1. Kid and Family Friendly Places
There might be no Disneyland in Korea but they have special places for kids. They have Pororo Park, Lotte World, Everland, Kids Museum and the Children’s Grand Park.
I will be blogging more the places we visited with Gab: Pororo Park, Lotte World and Children’s Grand Park. Korea boasts some great amusement parks, such as Everland near Seoul. Especially if you are travelling with kids, this will be a highlight in your trip to Korea, a country where you can find traditional Asian culture as well as the newest and most exciting entertainments.
2. Safety
Though it is near North Korea, it is relatively safe in Seoul. There’s no need to fear when taking a late night or even midnight walk. It is also a safe place to run early in the morning even most of the shops and stores are still closed. We explored the streets and tourist spots in Seoul with our running shoes.
3. Connectivity
This is one thing I hope we have here in the Philippines and one of the things we missed when we got back. Wifi is very fast that when you do speed test, it passes the max number in the meter. You can upload hundreds of (hi-res) photos in facebook in a matter of minutes. Sending and receiving a single 3mb photo through mobile takes less than 15 seconds. When viewing videos, no need to wait for them to buffer as they automatically play!
Connectivity is never a problem as there’s free wifi almost anywhere.
4. Accessible and Affordable Public Transportation
I’m a fan of subways as it makes commuting very easy. Although Seoul is a big city, you can access pretty much every place of Seoul using only public transportation. Subway stations are well spaced and are easily accessible from almost anywhere in Seoul. And even if you’re going to a place that doesn’t have a subway station, the buses got you covered. They range from long distance buses that’ll take you to the outer suburbs to local-only buses that’ll just take you up a big hill and public transportation is also quite cheap. When the subways close late at night, taxis are also quite affordable.

5. Shopping
If you love shopping, you will love Seoul! There are a lot of underground shopping venues and night markets to visit. Cosmetic and beauty stores are all over the place. I think there are more cosmetic shops than restaurants or fast food and convenient stores combine (in Myeongdong area that is)!
The market, department stores and shopping areas caters to different taste, need or budget. Often, the shopping centers are near amusement parks and places of interest for tourists.
This trip was more for the little boy. So, that’s another reason for us to come back and explore other places.
